The Community Micro Fund/ Ciste Beag Ealaíona an Phobail 2024

Cumas Ceantar/Creative Places Uíbh Ráthach

The Uíbh Ráthach Gaeltacht and its environs has been awarded a Creative Places award from the Arts Council. The three year developmental programme for socially engaged arts began in January 2024 and will continue until January 2027. Over this period we will be working with local artists and local communities to create a supportive, enriching and self-sustaining arts culture for all the people of the Uíbh Ráthach area.

In 2023 and 2024 we designed a Micro Arts fund which was primarily aimed at artists who were interested in developing new cultural projects, often with community groups, across Iveragh. To date we have supported a total of 28 exciting and original arts projects and events through this Fund.

Building on the success of the Micro Arts Fund, and in response to feedback from members of the Iveragh community, we are currently launching our Community Arts Micro Fund 2024. This new funding intervention will offer support to community and voluntary groups in addition to arts workers and organisers who are producing arts, cultural and community-based events over the coming months in our Creative Place. This funding may be used to contribute towards the cost of artists’ fees incurred during the event.

We will be supporting events which have a strong participatory focus with the potential to extend and enhance each participant’s experience of the arts in general, or of a specific art form in particular. Events must be readily accessible to all members of the Iveragh public, both acknowledging and accommodating the diversity of communities who call Iveragh their home, and welcoming to those who don’t often participate in artistic and cultural activities.

Who should apply?

The Cumas Ceantar/Creative Places goal is to grow our Creative Place through supporting arts activity, experiences, and engagement opportunities. We recognise that the organisation and administration of these activities requires a sustained input from people who dedicate their time and talent, often for the benefit of the wider community. If you are an organiser of a cultural event, a community arts event, or a community based festival in Iveragh, relatively new or long established, you are invited to apply to the Community Arts Micro Fund to help with the costs of artists fees and materials incurred during the production of the event.

We welcome in particular ideas or projects in which the Irish language is foregrounded.

If you are a budding arts organiser who has an idea for a brand new festival or community event,  unfortunately this is probably not the fund for you. However, please do come and speak to us about it, we may be in a position to contribute as you develop and grow the idea!
