Irish Language Courses for school groups

Junior & Leaving Certificate language courses

Dedicated Irish language courses for students. Every year an intensive Irish course is planned for the students who are preparing to start school in September. This is a joint venture between the Comhchoiste Ghaeltacht Uíbh Ráthaigh, Coláiste na Sceilge and Kerry Education Service. This course is divided into two parts:

  • First week day course (students going home every night)

  • Second week residential course (accommodation in Brú na Sceilige every night)


Language Assistance in Primary Schools

An Irish language support service has been provided in Gaeltacht primary schools for many years now. They provide this service in all Gaeltacht areas in Munster.

Bridie Uí Shúilleabháin is the Language Assistant working in the primary schools in Iveragh and doing her best in working with the teachers and principals.


Art Projects

CRITHLIONNAIR

The Comhchoiste Ghaeltacht Uíbh Ráthaigh art project since September 2011 is the name of the art project.

Róisín Ní Chionnfhaolaidh is the artist in residence who worked with us - Róisín comes from the Waterford Gaeltacht but now lives in Ballinskelligs. Róisín began her period with an initiative linked to the Michael's pattern in Ballinskelligs by encouraging the local community to make flame clay pots, and during Michaelmas they were released to the sea near the castle.

Róisín has done the best work with this project as can be seen from the photos below:

This is an initiative aimed at providing support to businesses in the area to use more Irish on a daily basis.
